United States refugee program SUMMARY IOM Riga is participating in a larger USRP project implementation since beginning of 2002. The project, coordinated by IOM Moscow, allows immigrating to the USA as refugees for the formerly persecuted religious groups, who have there close relatives. This humanitarian family re-unification project includes Jews, Christian Evangelists, and other religious groups, residing on the territory of the former USSR. During two years of USRP operations, over 200 persons have been assisted in departing from Latvia, Estonia and Lithuania, and other 65 persons were issued travel documents to arrive to the USA without a refugee status for humanitarian reasons.
