Make safe decisions – awareness raising among potential labour migrants on the risks of trafficking SUMMARY Trafficking in human beings has become a global, organized business that generates huge profits for traffickers and organized crime syndicates. According to some experts, human trafficking is the third most lucrative global business after arms and drugs trafficking. The crime severely violates the fundamental human rights of victims and destroys their physical, mental, and emotional well being. Lured by promises of well-paying jobs in other countries, many victims willingly accept the services offered by traffickers without realizing the full nature of their future employment or the conditions in which they will work. The alarming trend of trafficking of young people is a reflection of an increase in the numbers of young people moving within their countries or traveling abroad for either short or long term periods. The project raises awareness among potential labour migrants in Latvia, especially youth (aged 15-20), about the risks of human trafficking for both sexual and non-sexual forms of exploitation through a public opinion poll, an information campaign, and training and information activities. TARGET GROUP Potential labour migrants, especially youth (aged 15-20).
